Orangutan Tour

Orangutans   (pongo pygmaeus pygmaeus sp.) living free at their natural home at Camp Leakey, Tanjung Harapan and Pondok Tanguy stations at Tanjung Puting National Park.  You can do trekking around rehabilitation centers for an encounter with the orangutans and the other endemic species of Kalimantan. In the peaceful afternoon, we cruise the river to watch the proboscis monkeys, birds and other wildlife animals playing in trees he riverbanks while you enjoying your afternoon tea in the roof of the boat.

Many of past clients call this is a "magical trip". We will take you to meet one of the human's closest living relatives in animal kingdoms: Orangutans  inside the misty rain forest surrounded by proboscis monkeys, macaques, gibbons, birds including the giant hornbills and other exotic flora and fauna. You will explore the quit river on a traditional boat   ( "African Queen" river boat style) and having some short walk around the stations.

We also suggest you to spend 01 night (or more) on the boat for a better opportunity of sighting the crocodile, birds, monkeys and other animals at dusk or down at their night time resting place in the trees at the riverside. In the morning you will be waked up by the morning dew and the concert of tropical rain forest creatures. A healthy meals for dinner and breakfast is prepared by our expert cooks.

Overnight will be on the 2 x 6 meter wide boat with simple toilet, clean mattresses, pillow, mosquito net, healthy meals, water available on board, in order to get better change to watch the animals' activities in the early morning. The boat  forms a roof and accommodate for 4-5 people. You can sleep on it or inside the boat separated with the guides and the boat crews.

Orangutan Tour 4 Days / 3 Nights

Day 01 : Semarang  - Pangkalanbun  - Camp Leakey (L,D)
From Semarang Airport depart to Pangkalan Bun by MZ 5436 at 08.30AM and you will arrive in Pangkalan Bun at 10.00AM. Upon arrival at Pangkalan Bun, you will be picked up by our local staff and take you to Kumai to board on the boat. The boat is a traditional Klotok wooden river boat about 6m by 2m with a roof which forms the upper deck where you can view the rain forest as it glides by. The guide's team includes the boatman, a cook and expert guide. Lunch is served on the way to Camp Leakey, a rehabilitation center for orphaned orangutans, 4 hours away from Kumai. Here the playful and friendly baby orangutans are taught the first stages in fending themselves in the jungle. In the peaceful afternoon you have chance to explore to quite river by the klotok while observe the monkeys along the riverside. Dinner and overnight on the boat at river side 15 minutes down the river from the Camp Leakey. Thin mattress, pillow, fine meals, bottled "mineral" water, mosquito net, kitchen, simple toilet available on boat besides the familiar - helpful guides and boatmen.

Day 02 : Camp Leakey Full Day (B,L,D)
After breakfast take an easy trekking around The Camp Leakey for birdwatching and to see the morning "Feeding Time" for the ex-captive orangutans with opportunity seeing of other animals and exotic fauna. After trekking, cool with dip in the tea colored water, which is pure but stained with natural tannins. Lunch provided on boat. Afternoon visit the feeding station to see rehabilitated orangutans are given additional food then we will have an overnight on boat for a better opportunities seeing the animal activities in the evening and in the early morning.

Day 03 : Another Day at Camp Leakey (B,L,D)
Today we make second full day visit to Camp Leakey where you can trekking deeper in to the jungle or in different direction in order to meet more of orangutans and other exotic wildlife. Meals provided and overnight on the boat or Rimba Lodge

Day 04 : Camp Leakey  - Kumai - Pangkalanbun - Out (B)
After breakfast return to Kumai and direct transfer to the airport for flight to Semarang by Merpati MZ 5563 departure at 14.25 and continue to other destination.
